WYOMING AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT - The state American legion baseball tournament starts this morning at Thorne-rider stadium. Cheyenne Post 6 has won eight of the last nine state titles. Gillette took the crown from Post 6 in 2008 before Cheyenne won it again last summer and coming into this year's tournament they are the favorite to repeat.
These are the first round match-ups today, the first game has Torrington taking on Powell at 9:00. Rock Springs plays Gillette at noon. It's Casper and Cheyenne starting the afternoon session at 3:00 and the your Sheridan Troopers will play Laramie in the late game at 8:00.
BOOSTER CLUB GOLF - The Sheridan high school booster club will host their golf tournament at the Powder Horn Friday there is still time to sign up. The tournament will shot gun start at 9:00 am and is a four person team scramble. To enter a team please contact Don Julian at Sheridan high school 672-2495 ex. 3106.
FALL SPORTS - The Bronc football team opens practice on August 9th with the rest of the fall sports follow a week later. a reminder all Sheridan county junior high and high school athletes must have sports physicals compete before they can practice with teams.
LITTLE GUY FOOTBALL - Next week registration opens for the Sheridan Recreation District Little Guy football program. Rec District Little Guy coordinator Chad Aksmit says they will take sign ups at the Rec office all next week. With play begins in less than a month.
Grades 1st through 4th play Flag football and 5th and 6th tackle. All tackle players must have a sports physical complete before they can participate. for more information call the Rec District at 674-6421.
VOLLEYBALL CAMP - The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team will host a one day camp for girls in the 4th- 6th grades at the “Y” August 11th. They are taking registration at the “Y” this week the cost is 40 dollars per camper.
MWC FOOTBALL - The Mountain West conference held football media day and a season after the Wyoming Cowboys won the New Mexico bowl the Pokes were picked by the conference's media to finish 5th in the league.
TCU received all 31 first place votes, BYU was selected 2nd followed by the Air Force Academy then the cowboys with San Diego state 6th and Colorado state 7th .
UNLV was voted eighth and New Mexico at the bottom after winning only one game last year.
