BRONC FOOTBALL - The high school fall sports season officially gets under way Sunday with the Sheridan Bronc football team annual player / parent meeting. The meeting will be held Sunday at 4 o'clock in the SHS auditorium. Broncs' head coach Don Julian says all players and parents need to be at this meeting. The Broncs open practice Monday morning; Julian says the players did a nice job in the weight room during the summer. The Broncs open the season at home August 28th against Casper Kelly Walsh.
WHSAA - The Wyoming High School Activities Association is looking for officials in all sports. Next week, they start the first round of clinics for football, volleyball and swimming officials. Dale Boedecker of Sheridan is a longtime basketball and football official and says they especially would like to see younger people interested in officiating to come out and get involved. Clinics are held on video and will be at Sheridan High School between 7 and 9 pm.
The football clinic is next Tuesday; the swimming clinic is Wednesday and volleyball clinic is Thursday. They will repeat the clinics the week of August 17th. All sports officials must attend one session. If you would like to know more, contact Dale Boedecker or Richard Wright at the Sheridan Recreation District office in Thorne-Rider Park.
REC DISTRICT - The Sheridan Rec District will host the JD Mullinax Tennis Tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Thorne-Rider Park courts; you can sign up at the rec office.
Next week Bob Farout will be holding a free tennis camp for all Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc players at the Sheridan High School tennis courts. The camp will run Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8 pm. The Broncs and Lady Broncs start pre-season practice August 17th.
HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS - Next Thursday evening Tongue River football coach Chuck Walters will host the Eagles player / parent meeting at the high school. The coach reminded us this week that this meeting is mandatory.
Big Horn High School will host their football and volleyball player / parent meeting next Friday at the school beginning at 6 o'clock. The Rams football meeting will be in the gym and the Lady Rams volleyball meeting will be held in the cafeteria. The Big Horn Middle School football and volleyball meetings will be next Thursday in the school at 6 pm.
GOLF - Big Horn and Tongue River golf coach Sandy Michelena will hold his meetings next Wednesday; the Big Horn meeting starts at 4 o'clock in the cafeteria and the Tongue River meeting will be at 7 pm.
All fall sports coaches say the most important thing athletes need to do is have sports physicals completed in order to participate.
HIGH GOAL POLO - The Flying “H” polo ranch hosts matches this afternoon beginning at 1 o'clock and Saturday afternoon. This week it's the “Oliver Wallop” Memorial Cup -- admission in free; bring blankets and chairs.
MLB - The Colorado Rockies were shut out 7-0 last night in Philadelphia. They close out that series this afternoon, then head home for seven in a row, starting with a 4-game series against the Chicago Cubs tomorrow.
