LOCAL GOLF - The 13th annual “Summer Hummer” golf tournament started at the Powder Horn yesterday with perfect playing conditions meeting nearly 200 players representing 16 states it maybe the 13th “Hummer” but the tournament's origins cover nearly three decades, tournament host Scotty Scott. One of the visitors playing and in his first is Wyoming Cowboys football coach Dave Christensen the coach along with his family are enjoying the weekend in Sheridan Scotty says Christensen is an intense competitor on the football field but a little more calm on the golf course. Many of the players in this year's tournament have been coming back to Sheridan for many years as the event has become like a big golf reunion and finally with all the wet weather we had early this summer the Powder Horn and the really all of Sheridan county is looking really good for the middle of July. The tournament concludes tomorrow, by the way team “Sheridan Media”shot a first round 65.
AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL - Your last chance to see the Sheridan Troopers play this season is tomorrow the Troops play their final home double header at Thorne-rider stadium against Rapid City post #320 the first pitch will be tossed out at 1 pm. The troops start post season play next Wednesday in Casper at the North District tournament the top four teams advance to the state tournament in Rock Springs which begins July 29th.
The Sheridan Jets close out their regular season on the road tomorrow in Powell next week they will be the host for the American Legion “B” state tournament.
JUNIOR GOLF - Attention!! all junior golfers the Sheridan county junior golf tournament series opens Monday junior golf is for kids ages 8 to 17 the fee to play in each tournament is 10 dollars. The first event tees off Monday morning at the Country club. July 27th they'll play at Kendrick golf course and the final event will be played August 4th at the Powder Horn registration forms can be found at all three Sheridan county courses.
PRO POLO - The Flying “H” polo ranch high goal polo season continues with matches tomorrow afternoon they start with the “Century 21 cup” at 1 pm admission is free bring blankets and chairs.
MLB - The Colorado Rockies began the 2nd half of the major league baseball season last night in San Diego blowing out the Padres 10-1. The Rockies are in third place in the National league west at this time eight back of the L. A. Dodgers but the Rockies on the heels of a great June run find themselves right in the hunt in the National league wild card chase.
