The Sheridan Lady Broncs finished 2nd and the Broncs were 3rd in the State track and field Championships.Boomer Mclaughlin finished up his high school career winning the state high jump championship for the 2nd straight year and also set a new Sheridan high school record going 6'91/4. Justin Will won the the 200 meters in his final race as a Bronc other Sheridan high school champions included the Broncs 4x100 meter relay team the Lady Broncs won both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. Justin Will also finished 2nd in the 100 meters and long jump. Brandon Forister placed in three events finishing 4th in both hurdle races and third in the pole vault for the Lady Broncs Taylor Gardner placed in four events she was 2nd in the 400 meters both hurdle events and 4th in the long jump. Katie Strandholm was 3rd in the high jump, Sadie Rhinesmith was 6th in the pole vault, Steph Pettit was 4th in the 100 meters, Claire Korpela was 6th in the 300 meter hurdles and in the distance events Steph Brown was 2nd at 800 meters, Lela Carpenter was 3rd and 4th in the 1600 and 3200 meters and Dana Morin was 5th and 3rd in both distance races other placers for the Broncs included Austin Woodward 4th in the 100 meters and Scott Alltop was 5th in the 100 and 5th in the 200.Dylan Morin was 7th in the 3200 meters, Jake Caulkins was 5th in the long jump and 6th in the triple jump. Tristan Chartier was 7th in the pole vault and Mitch Hoy was 8th in the shot put.
In the class 1-A meet the NSI boys were 12th and A/C was 14th for the girls NSI was 9th and A/C was 13th. Emerald Boyd from NSI won both the 100 and 200 meters for the nsi boys Dexter Currington was 4th in the 100 meters and the NSI boys won the 4x100 meter relay for A/C Shem Lavato was 7th in the 100 meters, Laurel Prusak was 3rd in the discus and 6th in the shot put. Ryan Baumgartner was 4th in the long jump and Steven Belus was 6th in the shot put.
In the 2-A meet the Tongue River girls were 6th the TR boys were 10th with the Big Horn girls 12th and the Big Horn boys 12th.The Lady Eagles had two state champions Hunter Vineyard won the high jump and Kristen Nielson took the discus and finished 2nd in the shot put also for Tongue River Kelsie Dellos finished 5th at 1600 meters and 8th at 3200 meters. Paige Miller was 6th and 3rd in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and Megan Moore was 7th in the shot put for the Eagles Taylor Heaps and Chris Maze finished 6th and 8th in the 800 meters. Cole Jolovich was 5th in the 1600 and 4th in the 3200 meters. Ryan Dunn placed in both hurdle events going 3rd and 8th.Tanner Tippets was 3rd in the high jump and Eagles also picked up points by finishing in the top in all three relays.
For the Big Horn Lady Rams Sarah Chapman was 4th in the 800 meters and Kaylie Vendela was 2nd in the high jump and 7th in the long jump for the Rams Wyatt Mirich was 4th in the high jump and Tim Mendoza was 3rd in the discus and 5th in the shot put.
The 2009 high school State soccer championships crowned champions Saturday. Jackson beat Buffalo 2-0 for the girls 3-A title in the boys 3-A championship Cody beat Buffalo 5-1 in the 4-A bracket Laramie repeated as the girls champions with a 1-0 win over Gillette and in boys title game Cheyenne Central beat Natrona County 3-1.The weather cooperated and the crowds were good Sheridan high school Activities Director Don Julian acted as the tournament director and says it was a great event and Julian says the feedback from teams and fan was good and it's a good thing they liked the event at the Big Horn events center because it returns in 2010 and 2011.
The Sheridan Hersey track meet will take place at 4 o'clock today at Sheridan high school and the Rec Distirct is still looking for some volunteers to help with timing and some of the field events if you can help out be at the Sheridan high school track before 4 o'clock.
The Rec District is also kicking off their summer adult softball leagues tonight at the sheridan softball complex games are played Monday through Thursday.
The Sheridan Troopers are off until Friday they head to Casper for a double header where they'll be looking for their first win of the season they stand at 0-4.
The Sheridan Jets are scheduled to play at home Saturday against Lovell.
Next week the Troopers will host Trooper baseball camp for all Webb Wright players the camp will run at Thorne-Rider stadium June 3rd through the 5th from 9 am to noon each day to register players forms are available at the Rec District or you can call American Legion baseball general manager Dan Bilyue at 672-2376.
