The Environmental Protection Agency reports that Wyoming residents have some of the highest rates of melanoma, or malignant skin cancer, in the nation.
Youlanda Wide with the American Cancer Society spoke to the Wyoming News Service about the A-B-C-Ds of suspicious skin spots. For example, “A” stands for abnormal edges. Wide explains the rest.
And, “D” stands for diameter. Wide says if a mole is the size of a pencil eraser or larger, it should get a look from a physician. The E-P-A Sunwise campaign estimates that the melanoma death rate in Wyoming has increased one-and-a-half percent every year since 1975.
