JACKSON, Wyo., (AP) - Teton County authorities say a 19-year-old California woman is dead after being rescued from a remote hunting camp in the Gros Ventre Wilderness area. Authorities have not yet identified the woman.
Searchers say the woman was on a hunting trip in the Purdy Creek basin, and that rescue crews were called about 2 a.m. Sunday after members of the hunting party reported she was throwing up and unresponsive.
Officials said wind and snow complicated efforts to land a helicopter deep in the wilderness, so crews set out from a trailhead on foot Sunday morning with a wheeled litter, and reached the camp about 9 a.m.
Teton County Search and Rescue leader Tim Ciocarlan said the woman
was alive and responsive when rescuers arrived, but died after being
taken to St. John's Medical Center in Jackson.
