Volunteers of America Northern Rockies held a Point-In-Time Count Wednesday during which they attempted to gauge the number of homeless people in Sheridan.
VOA case grant manager, Nick Angeloff, tells us how it went.
VOA wanted to do a more thorough job with the count this year because in the past that had not been the case. Accurate counts are essential for VOA because now numbers that they collected will go to the state and then to the federal government, which will provide VOA funds for programs to help reduce that number.
Angeloff said they couldn't have done it without help from everyone in town.
Angeloff said figures have yet to be finalized but the numbers were more than in years past for the simple reason that the count had not been done as well as it was this year. The event was held in the morning in the K-Mart parking lot and in the afternoon in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
