The annual Vespers Service will be this Sunday, December 19th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Buffalo.
The service will begin at 5 pm, but at 4:30 there will be an organ prelude to welcome everyone.
According to Wikipedia, Vespers is the evening service in the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran and some Protestant denominations. It is also referred to in the Anglican Church as evening prayer.
Performing at the service will be groups from area churches celebrating the holiday season through vocal and instrumental music, said Lola Pheasant, who is helping to organize the event.
Traditional hymns, carols and the not-so-traditional are on the schedule.
The local Vespers Service was started by a local group many years ago, Pheasant said, and the purpose is to celebrate the season and to raise money for local music scholarships.
The Vespers Service is free, but a free-will donation will be gladly accepted. All are welcome to attend.
The LDS Church is located at 470 W. Munkres in Buffalo.
