It's taken some time, as the Sheridan City Council has tabled the item twice, but Monday night the agreement with UPN to provide fiber optics to the City was unanimously approved. The reason for the agreement being tabled a couple of times had to do with possible penalties if UPN couldn't meet a certain response time during an outage. City Public Works Director Nic Bateson explains how the substitute agreement differs from the original.
The project to install fiber optics is actually a School District Two endeavor between UPN and the school district. Since the City right-of-way will be used for several different infrastructure lines, the City felt it would be a good opportunity to take advantage of the fiber optic installation by UPN.
