For the second year in a row an educator with connections to Sheridan has been named Wyoming's Distinguished Principal.
Rick Skatula, originally of Sheridan and current principal at Southridge Elementary in Casper, has been selected as the 2012 award winner.
Last year's winner was Meadowlark Elementary principal Jason Hillman. Skatula says that plenty of his inspiration for teaching comes from growing up in Sheridan.
The award "recognizes public and private school principals who make superior contributions to their schools and communities," according to the National Association of Elementary School Principal's website. Skatula will attend a ceremony in Washington D.C. in October.
He has been principal at Southridge Elementary for 17 years. His wife Kim is a music educator in Casper. They have two children -- Adam, an agent for an independent record label in Seattle, WA and Gretchen, a student at Belmont College in Nashville, TN.
Rick is the brother of Sheridan Media's MaryJo Johnson. His parents are Roman and Marty Skatula of Sheridan.
