Thursday night at the Sue Henry Auditorium at Sheridan High School, proud parents and students filled the room for the annual Academic Awards Ceremony.
Starting off the evening, hosted by Career Counselor Ed Fessler, was the announcement of the Class of 2010 Valedictorian, Megan Jenkins, and Salutatorian, Althea Wallop. Both young women were lauded several times throughout the evening, garnering many awards and scholarships.
Next came the presentation of academic letters for the straight-A students in all four grades, with the remainder of the evening seeing student after student go to the podium to receive national, state and local scholarships.
Sheridan College alone handed out over fifty scholarships totaling over $207,000. In all, over $1.9 million was awarded. Fessler indicates that in the next ten days, more monies may come in; he estimates that by the end of the school year, approximately $2.25 million will have been made available to the Class of 2010 for their future college endeavors.
