A few years ago, the City of Sheridan and Sheridan County implemented the Reverse 9-11 System. Cyndi Godwin is the Communications Supervisor in charge of the Dispatch Center at the Sheridan Police Department. She explains why the system was put in place.
She says that when the system was put in place, it focused primarily on land lines, but it only had about a 75% accuracy rate in reaching people, because cell phones were not factored in.
Now, she says, they are adding the CodeRED system. Godwin walks us through how the system is used.
The CodeRED system will be used to send critical communications, from evacuation notices to missing child alerts.
Putting cell phone data is critical, especially when emergencies can happen when people are not home to get a landline notice. Godwin tells us.
The E-911 Board funds the system using tax monies one receives on a phone bill. Godwin says that the best way for this system to work is if everyone registers their information.
