Sheridan has another feather in its cap this week, as it made it into the Top 10 Small Towns of 2012, according to Livability .com. Sheridan was chosen by the widely acclaimed travel site after evaluation of several local economic factors, including crime rates, unemployment rates and average commutes. Furthermore, Sheridan's historic Main Street district, outdoor recreational opportunities, and cultural events put Sheridan at number 10.
Penny Becker, executive director of Sheridan Travel and Tourism, said this is one of several awards Sheridan has received recently, referring to earlier awards from True West Magazine, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Western Horseman. Becker said Sheridan's recent rash of national recognition shows the town is gaining momentum.
Sheridan is the only town in Wyoming that made the Top 10 list. The next geographically closest town on the list was Golden, Colorado.
