54-year-old Sheridan resident Curtis Scheckla had his initial appearance in Sheridan County Circuit Court Thursday. Scheckla is charged with one count of Second Degree Sexual Abuse of a Minor. The charge stems from an alleged incident on the evening of August 7th, 2010, when Scheckla inappropriately touched and fondled a 5-year old girl in his home while her 8-year old brother was present in the room.
Charging documents state that when interviewed by Sheridan Police Detective Scott Brastrup, Scheckla said that he was highly intoxicated on the night of the incident and that a lot of what happened was vague. Scheckla also told the detective that the girl did something “to get the ball rolling”, which prompted him to take off his underwear.
Circuit Court Judge John Sampson continued the $20,000 cash bond. When Scheckla asked if he could have his bond reduced, Sampson responded with an emphatic “NO.” A date for the preliminary hearing in the case has not yet been set.
