Crews with Sheridan Fire-Rescue responded to a report of smoke inside the Historic Cady building Thursday morning shortly after 9 am. The old Cady Opera House is home to offices for Pinnacle Gas, Rockwell Petroleum, Sanford's Grub and Pub and The Bucking Buffalo Supply Company.
Sheridan Fire Marshal Brian Songer explains that firefighters found the cause of the smoke shortly after arriving on scene.
Songer said that aside from a light odor of smoke that should air out fairly easily, there was no damage to the building itself. Songer commended the staff of Pinnacle and Rockwell for their quick response to the incident. In addition to evacuating the building, staff members contacted adjacent businesses and advised them to evacuate.
The Cady Building experienced a major fire on December 23, 1981 that caused severe damage to the building and resulted in multiple fatalities. Captain Chuck Dudrey, who responded to Thursday’s fire, responded to the fire in 1981 as well.
