Much of Monday night's Sheridan City Council meeting centered around the award of bids for phase one of the Pathways Project. The Council awarded the majority of the project to Excel Construction of Sheridan in the amount of $158,000. The pathway behind Dow Street that would connect the Kendrick Park pathway from its current ending point to an area behind the SHAC office on Marion Street was tabled to a date certain of September 7th.
The item was tabled due to concerns raised by property owners Dr. Scott Bateman and Dr. Stephen Holst, who both occupy buildings that are near the proposed pathway.
That's City Public Works Director Nic Bateson, who explains what happens now.
As far as why the proposed pathway is so close to both of the businesses?
Bateson said that the Army Corps of Engineers flood control easement was put in place in the area in 1959. Attorney David Smith, who was representing the property owners, asked the Council to table the issue, as he stated that his clients are in the process of conducting their own survey to establish the property lines and boundaries of the businesses.
