The annual Red Hat Society's State Convention was held in Buffalo over the weekend, and the town's hospitality and events were a huge hit with the estimated 150 ladies in attendance from all over the region.
This is the first time Buffalo has hosted the state convention, and according to Claire Weibel and Judy Cummings, both of Gillette, it was a pleasant surprise to find residents so accomodating and the number of fun events the local chapter had planned during the three-day convention.
The Red Hat Ladies were treated to traditional raffles, auctions, and bingo, but also entertained by local artists such as the Basque dancers, the Fireants, and they were given a square dance demonstration. They also toured the TA Ranch and had a presentation on the Johnson County War by local historian Bob Edwards.
Tours of loacal businesses, horse hair decorating classes, shopping, and of course, their parade were all part of their weekend fun in Johnson County.
All of the festivities were organized by the local Buffalo Gals Red Hat Society. For more information, or to join the Red Hat Society, contact Alice Ott at 617-2808.
