This will be the second year that the Tongue River Valley Business Association will handle the 4th of July celebration for the Town of Ranchester. The Business Association made a proposal to the Ranchester Council Tuesday night to relocate where the fireworks are set off, to property owned by School District One near the Tongue River Middle School. The request was made because of some visibility issues last year that resulted from a train coming through town during the fireworks display.
After discussing the idea, the request was withdrawn due to the Council's safety concerns on the move and the fact that it's a little late in the game to be changing things this year.
That location is on the south side of Highway US 14 approximately 1,500 feet from the Elementary School. Clevenger explains why the Town isn't running the celebration anymore.
Clevenger announced that he will be absent for the next two Council meetings, and that Councilwoman Samantha Nixon will be acting Mayor while he's gone. The Council also approved the first reading of the budget for fiscal year 2010-2011.
