It's safe to say that skunks are not the most well liked animals, as they are notorious for emitting a bad smell when they spray. Not only are they one of the most stinky creatures in the animal kingdom, but they are also one of the biggest carriers of the rabies virus. Veterinarian Dr. Mark Schreiber says that rabies cases are not just found in cats and dogs.
Schreiber indicated that the best thing that people can do for their animal is have them vaccinated.
Schreiber said that the rabies vaccination is relatively inexpensive and can be administered by your local veterinarian.
This recent increase in rabies-infected animals in Sheridan County has prompted a public information meeting on rabies education to be held on Wednesday, November 18th at 7 pm in the C-Tel Presentation Hall at Sheridan College. Moxey-Schreiber Veterinary Clinic is hosting the free event, and featured speaker will be State Public Health Veterinarian, Dr. Karl Musgrave.
