There was a “silver haired” meeting with local legislators at the Sheridan Senior Center on Friday. Roughly 40 locals, including even a few “non-silver haired” high school students, took the opportunity to chat with our local legislators and learn about the issues coming up this next legislative session, as well as to voice their concerns.
And the big thing on people's minds right now?
That was Wyoming Senator John Schiffer:
He says his sense is that “people are scared,” and that because the healthcare bill “is a mammoth program,” it makes it very hard to understand not only what is in it, but also how it applies to Wyoming:
However, he says it will be more difficult to find a solution to other healthcare programs, including the new “insurance exchanges.” For instance, in Wyoming, we only have about 12 healthcare insurance carriers, of which, he says, one company dominates the market:
Senator Schiffer has been on the Senate Health, Labor and Social Services Committee since 2009. Previous to that, he was Wyoming's Senate President. Schiffer was one of five legislators who attended Friday's forum at the Sheridan Senior Center.
