The Sheridan office of Probation and Parole for the Wyoming DOC is piloting a new way to work with offenders within the community. Sheridan District Supervisor, Tony Garber, says that old approach focused too much on meeting quotas and not on needs.
Garber added that the new instrument allows his agents to work with the people who need the most attention, while still giving others adequate time in order to keep the community safe.
Sheridan Probation and Parole Field Office Agent Stephanie Wagner said in a WYDOC news release that after training and understanding of the risk assessment tool the program has allowed her to do just that. Garber reiterated that Wagner has helped make the new program successful in Sheridan.
WYDOC plans to eventually implement this program throughout the state and will soon expand the program to the Evanston office.
