Lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives made a St. Patrick's Day vote Thursday to end federal funding of National Public Radio, or NPR.
On the right, Republicans insist the vote was a step to reduce spending, saying the cuts would save up to $60 million a year. On the left, Democrats are accusing the move as a way for Republicans to get rid of what they feel is a medium with a liberal bias.
A statement issued by NPR officials indicate they feel “the bill is a direct effort to weaken public radio that would ultimately choke local stations' ability to serve their audiences.”
