RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) - A Rawlins dentist has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of theft or embezzlement in connection with a health care benefit program. Prosecutors had accused James Engstrom of overbilling the Wyoming Medicaid Program by more than $50,000 from January 1, 2005 through February 3rd, 2010.
Engstrom told the Rawlins Daily Times he would like to explain his situation but that his attorney advised him not to comment. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine at a sentencing hearing scheduled for February 7th in Cheyenne.
An official with the Board of Dental Examiners, which administers licenses, declined to comment on whether Engstrom could lose his license to practice.
