Groups gathered Tuesday at the WYO Theater to announce Sheridan's three days of events for Earth Day 2012.
First of those gatherings will be the “6th Annual Miniature Art & Music Auction: Celebrating our Wild Earth”, organized by the Wyoming Wilderness Association. Around 70 area artists and musicians donate their work, (musicians in 90-minute-max mini-concerts) for the auction. Artists can win prizes from local businesses in several best-of categories. Bids will be open from April 9th to the 20th at the Davis Gallery which will have art/music on display M-F from 9 am to 5 pm. The finale Gala will take place on the 20th with music, food and drink. Admission is free. WWA's Carolyn Schroth tells us where the money raised goes.
Earth Day, held every year on April 22, falls on a Sunday this year, and the City of Sheridan will host a variety of activities in South Park (off South Sheridan Avenue). Promoting the city's recycling program, solid waste division and the parks department, there will be more than 20 exhibits, tree planting, music, and food from Killy's. That begins at 1 pm.
Finally, there will be a special two-hour presentation of this year's Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour at 7 pm on Tuesday, April 24 at the WYO Theater. Last year Sheridan brought 11 of the festival films and there will be nine this time, according to Edith Heyward, Banff Festival organizer.
Tickets go fast, the show sold out last year, so get yours now at the WYO Theater. You can view the trailer online at wildwyo.org.
