Yellowstone County officials say two men were killed when their small plane crashed about 30 miles southeast of Billings. Debbie Alke is with the Montana Aeronautics Division.
The Cessna 182 left Sheridan about 11 a.m. Tuesday and was reported overdue by a family member Tuesday afternoon. The plane was registered to Montana rancher Fred Wallis.
The victims were identified as Wallis, and Scott Shimamoto. The men had been doing some last-minute work on a house they helped build in Sheridan.
According to the National Weather Service, cloud cover would have created a low ceiling for flying on Tuesday, most likely obscuring both the Bighorn and Pryor Mountains.
Officials have not determined the cause of the crash and the accident is still under investigation.
