At last night's Sheridan County School District 1 Board of Trustees meeting, the board unanimously – absent Johann Nield, who was not present – voted to approve $8,393,145 as the Guaranteed Maximum Price for Phase III of the Big Horn Campus project. Business Manager Jeremy Smith says that bids will go out today, and then...
Smith indicates that this is a much different process in terms of ufnding than the previous building consturction projects in the District; the School Facilities Commission is not directly responsible for funding the full cost of Big Horn Elementary. Rather, they have a blend of SFC funds, Legislative appropriations, and District 1 bond and capital construction dollars.
Assisting the District for the third time – the other two being the new Tongue River High School and the new Big Horn High School – is Groathouse GMP. Smith says working with them this time has been very smooth.
Superintendent Sue Belish told the board that they anticipate the new Big Horn Elementary School will not be ready for the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year; however, she anticipates that they will make efforts to move into the new building during the Christmas break 2011.
