The Legacy Pregnancy Center held their annual fundraiser Thursday evening with keynote speaker Pam Tebow – mother of Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.
Exact results weren't totaled as of Friday morning, but Legacy Executive Director Maureen Metcalf said that it looked like they met their goal of gathering $150,000. That's up from last year when they took in more than $100,000 in pledges and donations at their annual event.
Mrs. Tebow's pro-life speech Thursday night at the Holiday Inn advocated for alternatives to abortion through resources like the Legacy Pregnancy Center.
Her message builds from the story of her pregnancy with Tim. When she was on a mission in the Philippines, Mrs. Tebow fought amoebic dysentery while pregnant. Doctors advised her to abort, saying she would die if she didn't. Christian group Focus on the Family approached the Tebows about their story, and she has since spoken at events across the country.
"She had a strong story - the message of serving, getting involved and teaching our children and families the value of service," Metcalf said of Mrs. Tebows speech.
"At the end of the day, what defines our children, what is most important, is not how much they make or what they do, but how they live their lives."
Money gathered this year will go toward the center's 2012 goals which include purchasing and expanding the Legacy Center's current building, expanding their offerings to STD testing, and continuing to educate and mentor both men and women in the community.
The Legacy Pregnancy Resource Center serves about 55 clients per month in Sheridan, offering ultrasound services and faith-based counseling toward adoption, advocating against abortion.
A few hundred people attended the event.
