The Wyoming Business Council met in Cheyenne today to review various grant applications from municipalities around the state. The City of Sheridan had two out the three projects approved for which they were requesting funding in the form of grants. City Public Works Director Nic Bateson was at the meeting and says that the $1 million Community Readiness grant to provide infrastructure to the Sheridan Commercial Park was approved.
Bateson said that if the SLIB Board approves the Business Council's recommendation, the $1 million grant will allow the City to bid the project in the spring and begin construction on providing water and sewer to the commercial park in the summer.
Also approved was a planning only grant in the amount of $15,000 to develop a capital campaign or a plan to leverage additional funding and land to construct the National headquarters for the National American Indian, Alaskan & Hawaiian Educational Development Center.
Not approved was a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $500,000 to purchase the Wilson Land Trust property across the street from the YMCA. Sheridan County also had a CDBG request denied, as the Business Council said no to a request of $491,700 for construction and renovation work that would allow the Free Clinic of Sheridan County to move into the Sheridan County Public Health building.
