The Wyoming Highway Patrol is once again taking part in the national Operation CARE program to deter highway fatalities and accidents over the three day holiday weekend. Along with additional troopers and staff that will be out on patrol this weekend, WYDOT's Highway Safety Program will also be posting safety messages on the overhead and portable VMS signs around the state.
That's Wyoming Highway Patrol Sergeant Stephen Townsend, who says that the public can also do their part in keeping the highways safe over the holiday.
Townsend said the top three causes of highway fatalities are speeding, impaired driving, and failure to use occupant restraints. The extra hours that law enforcement work during the holiday weekend have been secured for the Highway Patrol by WYDOT's Highway Safety Program through a Federal Highway 402 Safety grant.
