The Northern Wyoming Community College District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a plan for obtaining financing for the Thorne-Rider Student Center at Thursday's meeting.
Sheridan College's Chief Financial Officer, Cheryl Heath, says the scope of the upcoming renovation and expansion project will be similar to that of the nearly complete Edward A. Whitney Academic Center.
Early estimates for the Thorne-Rider Student Center's renovation come in between $11-13 million, but Heath says the plan must first be approved by the state. And as of Thursday, officials report that $4 million in commitments have been received from donors.
Heath says they plan on employing local contractors for roughly 80-percent of the construction, similar to the construction of the Whitney Center.
