Don't be surprised if there are a lot of moving trucks on the roads this week; Sheridan's newest housing units are opening. Three new buildings belonging to Highland Property Management on the west end of 5th Street have been under construction the past several months. The facilities qualify for the federal low-income housing tax credit program, or LIHTC. Highland Property Manager, Cinde Schafer, said the units opening up this week are already almost at full capacity.
Schafer said the Covey Run Apartments are designated for the more mature crowd, and they have filled up a bit slower.
Highland Property Management choose to construct the buildings in Sheridan after an independent study proved the community was in need of affordable housing. Now that construction is nearing completion on the new facilities, Schafer said the numbers didn't lie.
There's an open house Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday for anyone interested in seeing the new apartments. For more information, call 763-4655.
