A recent audit by the Wyoming State Department of Revenue of Pennaco Energy found that Sheridan County had received a sales and use tax payment of $1.27 million that was actually owed to another county. Sheridan Mayor Dave Kinskey explains what happened that lead to the gaff in payment.
Kinskey says that when their monthly check never showed up in October, that's when the City realized they had a problem.
The Mayor remains optimistic that they'll be able to work something out with the state.
The City would owe $291,980.58 out of their general fund and $235,468.21 from their one-cent fund. The amount from the cap tax fund that the City would owe has not been calculated at this time due to the fact that the City is in the middle of an audit.
