Officials with the Sublette County Sheriff's Office say a small plane, and its pilot, that were missing for a week have been found in a rugged mountainous area of western Wyoming.
Authorities confirmed Saturday that the pilot, a 63-year-old Miles McGinnis, died in the plane crash near the Lincoln and Sublette County line. McGinnis and his single-engine Cessna 182 were reported missing on November 17 after he failed to land the plane in Pinedale that afternoon.
Search and rescue crews discovered the wreckage a little over a mile from the location of the final radar contact with the plane in the Upper Hoback of the Wyoming Range.
Authorities say search and rescue crews had been in the area earlier this past week but the debris and wreckage had been covered by recent snowfall. It was discovered after the snow melted following recent warmer temperatures.
