U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis voted in favor of H.R. 2560, the Cut, Cap and Balance Act, which provides a path forward to cut current spending, cap future spending, and ensure Washington begins to live within its means by putting in place a constitutional balanced budget amendment. Representative Lummis outlined the highlights of the Cut, Cap and Balance act on the House floor.
The Cut, Cap and Balance act passed the House by a vote of 234 to 190. It establishes a cap on mandatory spending for FY 2012 at $680.7 billion, which is approximately a $50 billion reduction. It also excludes spending on Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ benefits and net interest from the cap.
