A year ago, Memorial Hospital decided in a fairly short number of days to put together a Pink Link run / walk as part of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Not knowing how the turnout would be with relatively short notice, organizers were stunned when over 600 people of all ages, shapes and sizes took part, with waves of pink moving over the route, despite less-than-ideal weather.
Because last year was so successful, it was a no-brainer to plan a “2nd Annual”, with the title of The Link – Partners in Pink. Last year money raised went to the purchase of new digital mammography equipment. This year, says one of the event organizers, Ada Kirven, the money raised will go to another branch of Memorial Hospital's cancer-fighting team.
Committee member Lee Ingalls describes what participants can anticipate next Saturday, October 23rd.
Of course walkers are encouraged to take part as well. From the finish location at the Y, everyone will make their way back to Whitney Commons for food and musical entertainment to celebrate the culmination of a very pink morning.
Registration before October 18th is $25; after the 18th it goes up to $35, and includes a t-shirt, a goodie bag and the post run / walk party. To expedite the registration process, participants are invited to come to Memorial Hospital the night before, Friday, October 22nd to pick up their bags and t-shirts.
