Tuesday, the Sheridan County Commissioners accepted the 99-year lease proposal from the Wyoming Game and Fish for junior water rights on Lake DeSmet. Wednesday, the Johnson County Commissioners rejected the G&F proposal, stating that they weren't comfortable with the length of the lease.
Thursday, the Lake DeSmet Counties Coalition Joint Powers Board voted to accept the lease proposal with the lone “no” vote coming from Johnson County Commissioner Delbert Eitel. Sheridan County Commissioner Bob Rolston says that it's frustrating since the terms of the lease were recently changed to alleviate Johnson County's concerns.
Since Johnson County won't budge and the Game and Fish Commission meeting regarding the lease is less than a month away, it appears the deal is all but done. During the LDCC meeting, Game and Fish Commissioner Carrie Little extended an invitation to Sheridan County to attend next month's commission meeting to deliver their proposal to the G&F.
The Game and Fish Commission meeting addressing the lease proposal will take place September, 13th in Casper.
