Kaycee Mayor Tom Knapp gave an update to the Johnson County Commissioners on the city's recycling program, its new waste transfer station, and the situation with the Solid Waste District.
Knapp said the recycling program and waste transfer station were all up and running well so far.
Recycling is being handled by an indivdual who will take the materials at no cost to the town, for reimbursement of the value of the recyclable materials at the distribution centers, Knapp said.
The disagreement with the Solid Waste District, he said, looks to be resolved at this point, but the Kaycee Town Council will still have to officially accept the agreement, which he expects them to do.
The town had looked into the possibility of forming its own solid waste district in southern Johnson County, stemming from disagreements with the current district over budget issues and differences in forming an integrated solid waste plan.
The current agreement, according to Knapp, will more than likely kill the idea of another district.
