Johnson County, County Attorney Ken DeCock and Volunteers of America are working to reach and agreement between themselves to allow VOA to continue providing juvenile probation services to the county.
The commission had previously decided not to renew their contract with VOA after it expires in June, and to hire a juvenile probation officer that will be based out of the county attorney's office.
After VOA became aware of the county's decision, they requested a meeting to air their differences and possibly reach an agreement. The meeting took place Tuesday between the commissioners, county attorney Ken DeCock and VOA of the Northern Rockies President and CEO Jeff Holsinger and VOA Executice Vice-President Heath Steele.
Commission Chairman Smokey Wildeman explains what came out of the meeting.
Wildeman said the VOA and DeCock will have a number of meetings in the next week or so to try to work out an agreement that everyone is happy with, and present their agreement to the county commissioners at their next meeting June 7th.
The Commission is expected to make a decision on the matter then.
