The Johnson County Commissioners approved a proposal for a FEMA-approved emergency plan for the county.
The plan must be updated and re-written every five years and the county's plan is due for the update this year.
The approval went to Michael Baker Jr., Inc. from Lakewood, Colorado, who submitted a bid of $28,500. The other bid came from Beck Consulting from Red Lodge, Montana for $37,950 but they would not be able to start the project for some time.
County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connelly brought her recommendation to the commissioners for their approval at last week's meeting.
She explained the process for her decision.
The Hazard Mitigation Planning Grant proposal for the project has been submitted to the state, according to Connelly, and she should know soon whether the grant application has been approved.
Connelly said the county must implement this FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plan or be subject to not qualifying for future Federal aid.
