At their meeting earlier this week, the Johnson County School Board discussed proposed changes to the salary and benefits policies, leaving some unchanged and modifying others.
Discussed but not changed were employee health insurance premium increases. There were increases but the district will not pass on the cost to employees. Also, employee retirement contributions were not changed, and eave or buyout plans were not changed.
District Superintendent Dr. Rod Kessler explains what changes were made by the board.
The board also approved a study group to look into the possibility of a new salary schedule for classified staff , and they will report back to the board by February of 2012.
Extra duty salaries will also be studied to determine if there is a better way to structure them. Kessler said coaches, in some cases, may not be certified teachers, and the board wants to look at the salaries for those individuals.
Kessler said there would be an increased cost to the district because of the changes.
The board approved the changes to the policies on first reading.
