Johnson County, Road and Bridge and the US Forest Service have all reached an agreement to allow the county to maintain a parking area on Hazelton Road, just south of Highway 16.
Cabin owners and recreationists have for a number of years parked their vehicles, trailers and such along the highway, which has at times created a hazard at the beginning of Hazelton Road.
Hazelton is passable only by snowmobile for much of the fall, winter and early spring. The entities involved have been working on a compromise and agreement where county road and bridge would maintain a parking area on Forest Service lands.
At last week's meeting, Johnson County Road and Bridge Supervisor Scott Pehringer brought the agreement before the commission for their approval.
The commissioners agreed to have the chairman sign the agreement after County Attorney Ken DeCock has reviewed the document.
