The Johnson County Commissioners approved and signed the finalized regulations for the Mikesell/Potts Recreation Area at Lake DeSmet.
Problems with noise, dogs at large, fireworks among others prompted the commissioners to draft regulations to curb the problems. Johnson County manages and runs the recreation area. Earlier this summer the draft was completed, but after a final perusing of the regulations, it was determined that a regulation requiring dogs on leashes at the site be added . That prompted another 45-day advertising period for the entire list of regulations.
Tuesday was the first opportunity for the commissioners to adopt the regulations. Only one comment came in on the regulations, from former commissioner Gerald Fink, who was concerned about the length of camping at the site, so campers could not tie up campgrounds while not actually using them.
Commission chair Smokey Wildeman read the comment at the meeting, and gave his opinion on the matter.
The commissioners then voted to accept the regulations as advertised. To view the regulations, click here.
