The Johnson County Commission voted to allow Chair Smokey Wildeman to sign and accept a grant from FEMA for just over $57,000. Wildeman explains further.
He also explained the grant period is from September 1, 2011 through March 31, 2014.
Commissiioner Delbert Eitel asked why the grant was coming for approval so late if it began in September. Clerk Vickie Edelman explained it was normal for the paperwork to take that long to show from the Federal Government.
The purpose of the grant, according to FEMA's website, is to provide funding to support the implementation of State Homeland Security Strategies to address the identified planning, organization, equipment, training and exercise needs at the state and local levels to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from acts of terrorism and other catastrophic events.
