The Sheridan Community Land Trust is partnering with the Sheridan County Museum to establish an auto tour route for historic mining locations in the area. Nathan Doerr, director at the museum, talks about what this means for Sheridan.
The route will be a self-guided, vehicular journey to several extinct mining towns within the area, to include the town of Acme and several locations known as Dietz mines. The project entails establishing a map of the locations and posting signs at each area for travelers to learn the location's history while they're physically there. there.
The research phase of this project is complete, signs are being made, and the byway is expected to be complete and dedicated in September. This byway is a project of the larger Historic Mine Trail and Byway Program sponsored by the State of Wyoming's Historic Preservation Office.
