Each week, Governor Dave Freudenthal meets with the media to discuss a variety of topics, and two he covered this week dealt with issues affecting Wyoming's older population.
Wyoming recently accepted a grant under the Affordable Care Act that would enable the state to study a health insurance exchange. Freudenthal said that while the State is not obligated to do anything, his office, in conjunction with Senator Charles Scott and other legislators, will look at the issue.
He says that while his administration will start the process, he does not expect the Legislature to act on it in the 2011 session.
Also from the conference, the governor signed a proclamation declaring the week of October 25th as “National Save for Retirement” Week. He discussed the State's retirement fund.
Freudenthal said that Wyoming’s retirement fund is ranked in the top 18% in the nation because of prudent management and conscientious legislative action.
