The update from the Incident Management Team on the Gilead Fire was early Sunday morning, and as of 6am the fire is at 5,720 acres and 40% contained.
The change in acreage for the fire is again due to better mapping, according to the release.
Saturday, crews continued to make good progress fighting the fire, as firelines on the eastern flank were improved. A spike camp was set up in Firebox Park to support crews constructing lines on the southern flank of the fire, while helicopters continued to make bucket drops on the southern flank as well.
Construction of direct containment lines will be continued on the southwest section of the fire with bucket work supporting crews constructing fire line. Smoke and flames from the interior of the fire may continue to be visible to the public.
Temperatures will be in the mid 70’s to low 80’s today with winds out of the northwest, with winds increasing Sunday night. Warming and drying trends continue.
The public meeting in Buffalo Saturday evening was attended by 41 community members.
