This year's Opening Day is Saturday, May 7, but the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum in Buffalo is plenty busy in their off-season.
Contrary to what some might believe, the time between their closing in the fall and re-opening in the spring is not time to relax or go on vacation. It is the time for maintenance, repairs and building new exhibits.
This year is no different, and Jennifer Romanoski, Museum Educator, is especially excited with this year's new exhibits. She gives us details on the first, an exhibit on the local Basque culture.
Also new this year is an exhibit on the Johnson County Cattle War, and Romanoski explains what that will be like.
Finally, there will be a new exhibit on Jim Gatchell himself, and his friend Weasel Bear, a Northern Cheyenne that frequented his pharmacy, sitting on the floor smoking cigars.
All three exhibits will be ready when the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum opens May 7. There will be free admission to the museum, refreshments and a number of other celebrations that day as well.
