During his bi-monthly media conference Tuesday, Governor Dave Freudenthal discussed state and federal issues. Last week Freudenthal declined the first of what is expected to be dozens of federal health care reform grants, stating the grant was not in Wyoming’s best interests.
The Governor reiterated that he will pause at every step to make an individual determination, as more grants become available, about what will be most beneficial to Wyoming. The Governor responded to questions about what those who are vying for his job are saying about the State's budget.
Freudenthal said his successor will have the opportunity to make budget recommendations to the legislature when it meets in January, 2011.
A recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, in a case filed by gun rights proponents who challenged gun control laws in Chicago, was another federal issue the Governor discussed.
Freudenthal lauded the Court’s reasoning, noting that future gun regulation laws will be judged by the strict scrutiny standard.
