The first Farmer's Market of the year will be Thursday at Whitney Commons, across from the library. Local growers will be showing off and selling their harvest. Bonnie Gregory, manager of the farmers' market, explains how buying local produce keeps communities strong.
Gregory went on to say that buying local produce is one of the biggest steps toward a healthy lifestyle. She pointed out food grown thousands of miles away loses nutritional content and is exposed to fossil fuels during the shipping process. The Farmers' Market will be Thursday night from 5 to 7 o'clock. Alger Street will be closed from Brooks Street to the Commons to allow safe access to the market.
