CHEYENNE, (AP) - The largest single-unit deployment in Wyoming National Guard history has ended with the return of 100 members of the 115th Fires Brigade to Cheyenne. A couple hundred people were on hand to welcome the troops home with hugs, signs and waving flags at Guard headquarters on Friday afternoon.
Governor Freudenthal told the returning soldiers it was an honor to see them serving overseas, but much nicer to see them back in Cheyenne. A total of about 700 Wyoming Guard members left last April for tours in Kuwait or Iraq. No Wyoming members were killed during the deployment. The 960th Brigade Support Battalion returned to the state Saturday and the 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery returned Thursday.
